Harry Potter & CoS Book Question

O.K., I know I'm behind everyone in reading and watching the movies, but I have at least started... Anyway, I am re-reading Chamber of Secrets and last night I came upon the following passage after Hagrid rescues Harry from the Dursleys:

"People stared more than ever on the train. Hagrid took up two seats and sat knitting what looked like a canary-yellow circus tent." (Chapter 5, "Diagon Alley")

I'm sure that passage has stuck in my head every time I've read Chamber of Secrets (CoS), but I had forgotten that it was there. It just makes me adore Hagrid even more! I don't remember if that scene was in the movie - kind of doubt it, since it's probably not a very important scene to anyone but us fiber art folks! And, of course, I can't find my copy of the movie anywhere.

Has anyone figured out what Hagrid might have been knitting? I suppose I could make a canary yellow baby blanket that is shaped somewhat like a big top tent's top and say it's what Hagrid was knitting : ) What do you think?

I think Hagrid was knitting something for himslef - since he's half giant.

In later books, as has been pointed out in posts on this blog, Hufflepuffs Quidditch robes were canary yellow. Now I don't think Hagrid was knitting Quidditch robes, but I thought it interesting that the same color was mentioned.

I'm also thinking along the same lines...if it is the size of a circus tent, it's gotta be for Hagrid. A sweater maybe...a Martha Stewart poncho...(sorry, that one slipped out).

Well, yes, I thought it might be something for Hagrid. But I'm not sure he'd wear something canary yellow. Besides I don't know any half-giants to knit something for...

My husband is kind of huge, but I don't think he would like to wear a big canary yellow sweater *LOL*
I REALLY hope we get to see Hermione knitting to the house elfs in the movie :)

Hmmm...I had never wondered before.
Maybe something for one of his beloved 'pets'?
