The Soft and Cuddly Dark Lord

When we last left the Dark Lord, he had woken in a daze only to find that, though a potion screw up, he'd been turned into a cute and cuddly version of himself. When the horror of that realization passed he took in his surroundings and found that a change of body wasn't the only thing that the potion had done.

"This is not my house. Look at this decor... oh no..."
"Buffy? The X-Files? Jack Sparrow? I'm in a Muggle's house. And she's a NERD!!"

Desperate for clothes and unable to locate his wand, he began rummaging through the muggle's things. Luckily for him, he found something he was able to use...

"Ha, and Lucius laughed at me for taking that sewing class."

"Damn, I am one sexy evil lord of the world. Wait! What's that noise? The muggle!"

The unaware muggle woman returned home from a long day's work. As she entered something poked her through her shoe.

"What the...?"
"It looks like a little wand. But where did it come from?"

"Muggle! I demand that you return my wand immediately!"

"Aww, how cute! It's a soft and cuddly version of the Dark Lord."

"I am NOT soft and cud- wait... how do you know who I am?"

"Everyone knows who you are! The whole world is completely enthralled with the stories of Harry Potter and the Dark Lord."

"Story? Show me these stories!"

"What absolute rubbish! What propaganda! Oh sure, he's the big victim! He's the big hero. What about MY pain? What about MY hardships?"

"Well, why don't you tell me about them?"

"Yes Muggle, look into my eyes. Show me how to manipulate you. Show me how to control you..."

"Sorry? I didn't catch that..."

"I said... you have lovely eyes. Perhaps I can trust you."

"Aww, how sweet."

"Very well, I will tell you my sad story... it has been many years since I've told anyone about my past."

Coming soon: Part 3 - Dark Lords Have Feelings Too

I think I'm all set here...

I've got the last three books I need to re-read, a half-knitted Weasley sweater, and a copy of The Great Snape Debate, which I found out about in Becky's post. My daughter's already taken back her owl.

The sweater is for my seven-year-old son, and I'm sort of using the pattern from the sidebar. More about it on my blog.

Does anyone else think the yellow circus tent Hargrid was knitting in the first book might've been a sweater for one of his pets?

Griffindor Dress Socks

Griffindor Dress Socks Mens size 11. I know whats with the really big feet?
I have ordered yarn to make Ravensclaw, and Syltherin Dress Socks, and a golden color yarn for Griffindor instead of yellow. I actually have the second sock at the toe decreases but I wanted to share the current project for HP.

Fudge

Does Cornelius Fudge in the Potter movies drive anyone else nuts? Why does he call himself the Minister FOR Magic?

Gof book discussion

I just finished GoF on tape. Not sure when I will get time to read it. Some thoughts are...
  1. Butterbeer is alcoholic (I am now addicted to the stuff.) Not sure if I want my children drinking alcohol.
  2. Harry is really naive. Things get told to him but he doesn't remember them.
  • Voldemort tells Harry at the graveyard that Dumbledore has done magic to ensure Harry's safety. That is why he has to go to his Aunts every summer.
  1. Also the order of people coming out Voldemort's wand is wrong. Harry's mom died after Harry's father.
  2. How did Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle get out of the hexes and go home?
  3. If Rita Skeeter was a bug- how come she never got ate by a bird?
  4. I like the movie version of how Harry gets the gillyweed better than the book.
  5. I really enjoyed moaning Myrtle appearing in the bathtub. Hmm.. she helps him out a couple of times.
Well I am off to work on my elf slippers.

Back from Lurkdom

I haven't posted much in a while - too busy knitting I guess. Anyway, there is a quick update on what I've been doing here.

I've been obsessively knitting Yule Ball wear while finishing up listening to Goblet of Fire. I will post photos as soon as I get someone to take pictures of me in them.

In the meantime, I made another HP creature to keep Pigwidgeon company.

Introducing:

Hedwig (as a baby owlet).

Created while starting to read Order of the Phoenix out of stash yarn of unknown origin.

More creatures to come ...

Harry Bear

I just saw this adorable bear this morning and thought I'd post it. I don't recall seeing it posted before, but if it has, sorry. This is a really cute knit bear whose scarf is knit in his house colors. I'm thinking of making a few for gifts.

Harry Bear

Introducing Myself

Hello,
My name is Milly. I am a huge HP fan and a knitter. I am also into cross stitching and books. I also have three dogs. Two of them are therapy dogs.
I can't wait for Deathly Hollows! I am loving the knitting patterns too!

Trailer! Trailertrailertrailertrailertrailer

Have you seen the new trailer?

If you've not seen it yet, GO NOW. GO RIGHT NOW. Do not read this post. GOGOGOGOGO.

OHMYGOD. I can hardly stand it. I hadn't seen the picture of Luna yet until I saw the one on yahoo and she looks pretty close to what I imagined. But why did they put her right next to Lucius Malfoy?! That pale blonde hair makes them look like father and daughter. Grr.

But how cute are Ginny and Cho? And the Weasley twins- OH! the Weasley twins. I love them, I really, really love them.

GO. Watch it now. If you've already watched it, watch it again.

I can't stand it! It's so soon.

Well It Isn't Knitting

But I thought I'd share it anyways.

Shortly after the 6th book came out I was compelled to write a fan fic. It's a continuation of The House of Gaunt.

It's called Memory's End

I'd love to hear what you think.

The Adventures of the Dark Lord

Somewhere in the England countryside, in a dark and dank house, the Dark Lord was at work, brewing up a horrible potion to spread misery and pain over the land.

"Let's see... bring to a rapid boil and add the rosemary. And three cups of flour? What the... Wormtail! Don't leave your Rachel Ray cookbooks in the kitchen when I'm brewing evil potions!"

"I don't know why I agreed to share this place with him. He's always late with his rent, leaving his stuff around... So frustrating!"

Not one to be discouraged, the Dark Lord dumped out the half-cooked rosemary chicken and began his evil brew again. But, in his hurry, he failed to clean the cauldron properly. The rosemary sauce mixed with the potion ingredients until...

Hours later, the Dark Lord woke in a daze.

"Oh my head..."

"Nooooooooooooooooooooo!"

"Ok, calm down V-Man... pull yourself together. At least you still have your dignity."

"Well for the love of Salazar Slytherin!"

Coming soon: Part 2 - The Soft and Fluffy Dark Lord

Oh My Gosh They Let Me In!

Hi everybody!

My name is Becky and I am a crochet instructor for a Michael's store here in Indiana. I am crazy for Harry and I really can't wait for July like the rest of us "Normal People!"

I'm currently reading The Great Snape Debate which I got at Borders on Wednesday, (anyone else here reading that?) It's really reminding me why I'm here at all. Sort of a recap on all that's happened, (especially where Snape is concerned.)

I'm in Slytherin, (even though all those pesky on-line sorting tests put me in Ravenclaw all the time LOL! ). (I think I just wanted to be closer to Prof. Snape so I could gaze at him more often). LOL!

My blog is Beck's Blog and I try to make a potter-related thing every other post. I'm currently working on a sock monkey Dumbledore to go with my sock monkey Snape. I crocheted all the clothes and am just looking (or trying to make) a decent pair of half-moon glasses. The only ones I was able to find are completely round, (like Harry's) and too large for an average-sized sock monkey. (Any advice?)

Thanks for letting me join, I can't wait to meet everybody!

Hello Ravenclaws!

Hi! I'm Sarah from Alabama. I was sorted into Ravenclaw. This past week was my spring break week, so I used the opportunity to read books 1-5. I would have read book six but my mom only let me bring 1-5. I still feel that my favorite book is Prisoner of Azkaban. I love finding that Harry has someone who is like family, that his parents chose, not him. I think that they did a horrible job with the movie, though. My favorite movie is the first.

I can't think of anything to knit for my knit a long project. Does anyone have any ideas? I think I may make the Horcrux socks. I can't really decide.

I am in middle school, so I tend to have trouble finding time to read. I am allowed to knit in all of my classes except math, so that is no problem. I just have to find to read!

Hello Hufflepuffers

Hello Hufflepuffers!!!
Just checking in w/everyone as we have now started a new contest. I am now in the middle of GoF- tape 8, will also be reading the book as I keep missing key info. Such as S.P.E.W. stands for what again?
Knitting- I have cast on and knitted aprox. 10 rows for Hufflepuff house slippers. Finished one Dumbledore sock and am waiting to turn the heel on the other. (will post pics of those as soon as they are done.)

Well that is just about everything, and am looking to see comments from all Hufflepuffers.

We Interrupt Your Blogging...

For a short commercial break.

I thought this was the place to advertise the newest items in my Etsy store.

There are house specific stitch markers.

I know these look blue, but they're green.

There are also beaded bookmarks.

This one is my personal favorite. Who doesn't want their own bottle of Polyjuice Potion?

Or how about a bottle of the precious Felix Felicis?
This one was inspired by Neville, with his reluctant pet toad Trevor on one end and a single black bead to remind of the sad fate his parents suffered.
This last one was inspired by Dumbledore. Have you ever noticed he's usually wearing blue or purple?

I also have house specific bookmarks that I haven't listed yet.

I'll be donating a set of stitch markers and a book thong to the winner(s) of the next contest. They'll be made in the winner(s) house colors.

HP Sheldon

Pattern: Sheldon The Turtle
Designer: Ruth Homrighaus
Size: Just Right for My Sister's Harry Potter Gallery
Yarn: Knit Pick's Wool of the Andes in Hollyberry and Daffodil.
Needles: size 3 dpns and size 4 circs
Started April 3, 2007
Finished April 14, 2007

The third and final HP Whimsy for my Harry Potter crazed sister is complete. Figuring out how to start the applied i-cord was brutal. Once I got started it was not too bad. I've done applied i-cord before but not to knit two pieces of knitting together. Pretty ingenious technique. He's far from perfect but still awfully cute.

Please, Don't Take Any House Points Off!

Hi Everyone!

I joined a few days ago, but just now had the time to introduce myself. Hope no points will be taken from Gryffindor due to my tardiness. ;)

My name is Jill and I tend to be a prolific blogger at Stix on the Beach: Tales From The Happy Hooker!

I am ecstatic about Order of the Phoenix being on the big screen - 'cause it's my favorite HP book!

So far, my favorite film from the series has been Askaban, followed by Goblet, Chamber and Sorcerer's.

As for my HP Knit-Along project - I am still contemplating options. I'm keen on the idea of knitting a pair of Gryffindor knee-high socks a la Pippi Longstocking.

I look forward to knittin', readin' and chattin' with all of you! :)

Questions about Azkaban (I'm Behind!)

I finished Prisoner of Azkaban this afternoon and had two questions to put out to the group.

1. On page 204 of the American hardback, Fudge says "Dumbledore, who was of course working tirelessly against Who-Know-Who, had a number of useful spies." We know about Snape, of course, but "spies" implies more than one. Does anyone recall other spies for the Order that have been mentioned? Is there a Death Eater who will turn out to be a spy? I know in Goblet we see captured Death Eaters turning over information, but I don't think J.K. is refering to those people. Who are the spies?

2. On page 370 of the American hardback, Sirius says "Voldemort's been in hiding for fifteen years, they say he's already half-dead." I thought Voldemort would only have been in hiding for twelve years, since Harry was one. Is this a mistake or is there a finer point I've not realized?

What do you all think?

Harry Potter News - Fan Sites to Stay Around

I just read the most interesting article here about Harry Potter Fan Sites. Now, if only they'd do a news item about our Harry Potter knit-alongs!!

Looking for shawl pattern

I am considering knitting a Bobaton shawl and coordinating beret (spelling is wrong, and it is to late to search my book for correct spelling sorry.) I found the perfect beret pattern, but am at a loss for the shawl. I want it to be French, but not to lacy. Something elegant but not. If someone knows what I am thinking- because obviously I don't! Please post a comment.

Hufflepuff Socks

The Hufflepuff Socks (size 15 double e) are finally done just 13 days late. But, they will pass in the muggle world as regular dress socks. I have already received an order for another pair of socks fortunately not size 15. They were fun to knit and now onto the next project for Hogwarts. Karen A.

Harry Potter Article

I found this interesting article on Yahoo! about the rise of the Harry Potter websites. A little HP history if you're interested.

I have yarn!

It has been a while since I posted here, but I finally ordered my yarn and it come sooo fast! It is sock yarn from Scout's Swag in 'Death Eaters'. The yarn is incredibly soft and I am looking forward to making socks with it.

The Golden Snitch

While I was listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire yesterday I was inspired to knit this I had knit one before a few years ago and could find the pattern so after a long search of websites I can up empty handed. So I found my yarn and cast on I think it came out pretty well. I can write up a pattern if anyone is interested.Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Happy knitting!
The pattern is now up for sale on my blog and it is in PDF format. The link will be emailed to you.

And the Winner Is...

(It seemed so much more fitting to post this on Friday the 13th!)

Or should I say the Winners Are?
... Sal the Slytherin Hedgehog AND the Golden Snitch sweater.

Congratulations to Just a Knit Whit and Jo, our house ghost!

It was an excellent contest and thank you to all the participants and the voters. Ann and I discussed the poll results and Sal seemed to be the popular favorite, but we couldn't ignore the effort of designing and creating an entire sweater in only a couple of months! So we were quite happy to split the award between the two.

Stop by their sites and congratulate them; they did a fantastic job! And, again, thanks to all the participants. The projects were gorgeous!

As far as the winnings- Ann and I discussed the idea of more yarn, needles, knitting knick-knacks, but (thanks to a *charmed* idea of Ann's) decided to go a different route.

And the prize is... a copy of Charmed Knits and the Yarn Harlot's latest Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting . Good reading, ladies! I'll be emailing you both for your home addresses so look out for something from knitter.natter.

What a great contest! Forgive the cheez factor, but, if I could, I'd have given everyone a prize. Maybe if I strike it rich between now and the next contest, eh? ;-)

Can't wait to see what comes in Part Two of this KAL; I've already seen some great projects! And the next prize will be different, so don't think you can expect what's coming....

Cheers!

Pygmy Puff

Thanks to Mandy's Pygmy Puff pattern and a few of my own alterations (I decided to knit in the beads and I added an I-Cord tongue). I added a safety pin so he could ride on my shoulder.

His name is Bob. He's frisky. I am so wearing him to the movie...and he'll cry with me during book seven.

And if you want to know why having children should be done with a great amount of fore thought--go to my blog to see how my day has been so far. Sigh.

Exciting

This is so exciting, first contest soon over, days closer to the book and movie....the excitiement is almost too much to bear, almost....

More on the Contest!

Just to keep everyone informed, Ann and I won't be able to decide the contest until tomorrow and so have decided to extend the voting through tomorrow morning. Sorry to disappoint, I'm sure you're on the edge of your seat to find out the winner! We will be moving the contest announcement to tomorrow evening and those few who haven't voted still have time. I expect to take the poll down early Thursday morning.
Thanks so much for everyone's participation; it appears nearly the whole blog has voted! And if you're concerned you might have voted twice (this was expressed by a few people), don't worry, as the poll is not the only factor in our decision. We knew this wouldn't be an exact science!
Good luck!

Harry Potter and Dr. Who

If you're not a Dr. Who fan, please forgive me, as this next post will not make much sense.

Oh, okay, I'll fill you in; Dr. Who is a sci-fi/fantasy show that airs in Britain, and is about a time-traveling man who calls himself the "Doctor". No one knows his name, thence the Dr. "Who". (Yes, I know, terrible pun).

Anyway, as I live in the USA it takes me a few days to get the episodes after they air in Britain. Last night hubby and I watched it, and were thrilled to see the writers of the show acknowledge Harry Potter! In the episode!

Here's a short version of some dialogue after they find themselves in Elizabethan England:
Jones: Isn't this all a bit "Harry Potter" and all?
Dr. Who: Oh yes. Just wait till you read book 7. I cried. (Remember he's a time traveler)

Then, at the end of the episode, Shakespeare has to banish three witches (hmm, this is a terrible summary of the plot, isn't it?), he comes up with a sonnet on the spot (as curses simply must rhyme), and cannot think of the last rhyming word, which Jones supplies for him - "Expelliarmus!"

Okay, just take my word for it, if you like Harry Potter, you'll probably like Dr. Who too. And what could possibly be better than them both!

And, as this is primarily a knit a long, let me assure you that my fingers were busy flying along with the witches!

Check out my blog sometime!

Gof book discussion

This weekend I went in and signed up for the Deathly Hallows book release party at our only bookstore in the area. What a list already- I heard that it is quite the party. Now to get busy knitting something to wear to it, midnight in July. Warm weather and still light out. In the meantime I am listening to Goblet of Fire and finishing up the sock that I started.

My thoughts on GoF so far.
  1. Harry should have written down his dream (at least).
  2. What would have happened if Harry's Patronus had come out of the wand instead of the green skull.
  3. I cried w/Mrs. Weasley comment about the last time she saw her twins she yelled at them.
  4. How come Mrs. W couldn't alter Ron's dress robes herself? At least remove the lace.
Well I've only gotten to the sorting hat.
Good luck to all on picking projects for this next contest. Congratulations to everyone who finished one project for this last contest. And CONGRATULATIONS to all who did more than one project. Way to go.

Vote!

On the sidebar I've put up a poll at which anyone can vote. You should only be allowed to vote once from your computer, but if you have access to more than one computer you would be able to vote more than once.

So enters the Honor System. Ann and I ask only members of the KAL to vote and that you vote only once. There is no way to monitor this, but I know we've got a great group (you're Harry Potter lovers for heaven's sake!) so we're not worried.
Hopefully this will go smoothly and we won't be left with any Hanging Chads ;-).

The results of the poll will be a large factor in determining who wins, but Ann and I will make the final call.

You have until noon (EST) on Wednesday (4/11) to vote. Then the poll comes down. The winner will be announced Wednesday evening.

Again, this KAL has just gone brilliantly, far, far better than we could have expected. The many, many posts, the numerous (and fantastic!) contest entries, the camaraderie- we're thrilled with the progress of this blog. So at this halfway point we wanted to take a moment to thank all our wonderful participants!

Contest One!

Hello Contestants! Please check through the list to see all the very cool submissions.

First entry, sent to me to post by our lovely house ghost Jo:

"There are two Ravenclaw scarves that I started sometime in February.
One is the early movie type with the wide, even bars. The other is the
later version that is called the "trapped bar" pattern. There is a hat
to go with each of them. I finished the hats a few weeks ago, and put
the fringe on the scarves today.

There is also a Weasley sweater in navy blue with a snitch duplicate
stitched on the front in metallic yarn. I really like the snitch! I
started it around the end of February/beginning of March and did the
embroidery today.

This contest and KAL has been so much fun! I've been rereading the
books (almost done GoF) and watching the movies. I'm just staggared
and impressed with the stories all over again. Thanks for reminding me
just how wonderful they are.

I've been struggling with a lot of problems lately, and it's been
pretty discouraging, but watching Lupin deal with his problem in the
stories and then looking at Greyback and how he dealt with the same
problem has made me look around at how I'm dealing with my problems
and how others are dealing with the same problems. I can't change the
world and make everything right for every individual in the world, but
I am doing what I can with what I have, and the books are helping me
hold my head up with a little pride and dignity because at least I'm
still trying."

I intended to post each picture from these various posts, but, for some reason (nothing to do with me being a total computer Squib), I couldn't get the pictures to upload off the site. SO. I've linked each post for you (the voters!) to click on and refresh your memory on each lovely submitted item.

From Just a Knit Whit Sal the Slytherin Hedgehog is here.

From Treesh we have the Ravenclaw Neck Tie here.

From Cheryl we have her Hufflepuff Socks here.

From Karen we have her Wealsey cell phone cover here.

Also from Karen we have the HP Hedgie here.

From Birdwell we have a variety of newborn S.P.E.W hats here.

From Janet we have the Ron Weasley hat here.

If I've left off your submission, let me know! Email knitter.natter@yahoo.com and I will update this.

Ann and I thought we'd leave this up for a few days for everyone to see and then we'll post a voting poll over the weekend for you to pick your favorite. The winner will be announced Monday or Tuesday.

GOOD LUCK!
There's some interesting HP stuff in Beck's blog that I thought you might like to take a look at. I found this by accident when looking for a pattern to knit Marvin, the paranoid android from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Little Pigwidgeon

I'm currently listening to Goblet of Fire and am enjoying reading about Pigwidgeon. So when I ran across this pattern (scroll down about halfway), I put all my other projects aside and quickly made up my own version of the little owl.

Wizard Hat

When I saw that we are more than halfway thru (WHAT?!?! That's impossible! How can that be?!?!), I decided that I had better get knitting on something for the KAL. The reading and watching the movie's part is easy... So I decided to make the wizard hat, since my son loves playing dress-up, and one of the things he loves to pretend to be is Harry Potter. So the hat is perfect. And here's what I have so far:

ATTN: Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors

Regia Nation Stripes has a great self striping yellow and black yarn that would be perfect for Hufflepuff. Color 5391. Color 5393 would be great for Gryffindor too.

That is all.

Contest Reminders!

Just a quick reminder. If you're wanting to submit something to the first HP contest, it needs to be posted tonight (Monday, April 2nd)! With a picture, and a description, if you'll be so kind.

Ann and I will make a list of participants and post it sometime tomorrow- make sure you're not left off! And then (drumroll please) we'll have a winner before the end of the week! Whoo-hoo!

Can you believe we're halfway through this thing? Wild stuff, huh?

Thanks so much to all you fab bloggers- what a great group!

Harry Potter & CoS Book Question

O.K., I know I'm behind everyone in reading and watching the movies, but I have at least started... Anyway, I am re-reading Chamber of Secrets and last night I came upon the following passage after Hagrid rescues Harry from the Dursleys:

"People stared more than ever on the train. Hagrid took up two seats and sat knitting what looked like a canary-yellow circus tent." (Chapter 5, "Diagon Alley")

I'm sure that passage has stuck in my head every time I've read Chamber of Secrets (CoS), but I had forgotten that it was there. It just makes me adore Hagrid even more! I don't remember if that scene was in the movie - kind of doubt it, since it's probably not a very important scene to anyone but us fiber art folks! And, of course, I can't find my copy of the movie anywhere.

Has anyone figured out what Hagrid might have been knitting? I suppose I could make a canary yellow baby blanket that is shaped somewhat like a big top tent's top and say it's what Hagrid was knitting : ) What do you think?

Ron Weasley Hat

This is a North Country Hat that I finished after watching Prisoner of Azkaban. Ron Weasley was wearing this style of hat while visiting the Shrieking Shack. I used 10.5 clover cn and Magnum multi Chunky 75% acrylic and 25% wool. Started March 19 and finished March 25th.

New S.P.EW. Hats

I have 2 more S.P.E.W. Hats to share. This one was knitted by one of the gals in my weekly knitting group--she knit it up in just two hours. It's her own pattern.

It took me signficantly longer to knit up this hat. Why? I am a slow knitter and I suffer from knitter's ADD--I usually will work on 2 or 3 projects at a time--I mean they are in my lap and I'll do a row or so of each. It's amazing I get any knitting completed.

I modified the Bzzz Hat from Stitch N' Bitch Nation into this preemie sized hat--it may fit a large preemie...I don't know--about 12 inch head unstretched. My kids all had 15 inch (or so) heads.

I am not sure what sort of hat I am going to start next--I am toying with a pixie or a wizard's pointy hat--perhaps a hat with ears...

For the newbies (welcome by the way), I plan to collect and knit as many hats or other smallish type of garments that one would think would befit a House Elf before Book 7 comes out and then donate the whole lot to my local Children's Hospital.

New Member Introduction

My name is Rebecca and I am new to the whole Harry Potter scene. Yep, never read them the first time round when my family did. Isn't that amazing? I'm listening to the Chamber of Secrets as I knit and should finish it this week. I LOVE listening to books whilst I knit.

I won't be able to whip out a project for the first contest but have a couple ideas for the second one. I found this adorable Harry Potter Bookscarf Pattern and bought the floss for it yesterday. Since I am an obsessed sock knitter, I will definitely be knitting a pair of mismatched Gryffindor socks. Speaking of socks, there is a Hogwarts Sock Swap that is taking sign-ups right now. It sounds like fun!

Thanks for letting me join your group. I've enjoyed browsing through your posts and am glad I found you!

Rebecca

Hi Everyone!

And many other Harry things :)

My blog is: www.kristypage.net/krispyknits
