New S.P.EW. Hats

I have 2 more S.P.E.W. Hats to share. This one was knitted by one of the gals in my weekly knitting group--she knit it up in just two hours. It's her own pattern.

It took me signficantly longer to knit up this hat. Why? I am a slow knitter and I suffer from knitter's ADD--I usually will work on 2 or 3 projects at a time--I mean they are in my lap and I'll do a row or so of each. It's amazing I get any knitting completed.

I modified the Bzzz Hat from Stitch N' Bitch Nation into this preemie sized hat--it may fit a large preemie...I don't know--about 12 inch head unstretched. My kids all had 15 inch (or so) heads.

I am not sure what sort of hat I am going to start next--I am toying with a pixie or a wizard's pointy hat--perhaps a hat with ears...

For the newbies (welcome by the way), I plan to collect and knit as many hats or other smallish type of garments that one would think would befit a House Elf before Book 7 comes out and then donate the whole lot to my local Children's Hospital.

Those are great!

I especially love the doll modeling the beautiful hats. Where did you find it?

Sorry. You go to all the trouble of knitting up something like this, and (although I love the hats), I'm completely distracted by the model.

I think I am going to have to knit a S.P.E.W. hat with elf's ears to wear to the movie.

I'm fascinated by the different mental image pictures people get from the same descriptions.

Hermione's first hats were not done very well (according to the book) because she was trying to learn to knit in the middle of studying and all the other things she had to do.

I got a picture of the hats not only having beginner knitting, but also beginner yarn in natural (hence undyed) colors. Soft greys and rusts, etc. with slubs and so forth. The only reason that I can think of that I thought that is probably because I'm a spinner, and I sometimes begin a project by making the yarn.

So I'm amazed at the bright colors and evenness of the knitting for the S.P.E.W. hats so far.

I haven't gotten to the description of the hats yet (again) in my rereading. I'm going to have to check that out carefully.

What a wonderful gesture. That makes me so happy to hear that you will be donating the little hats. :)

Jo, the doll is A Baby Born from when my not quite so little sister was a little girl. It now belongs to MY little girl.

As for my hat interpretation-- I see my hats either as Hermione's hats when she actually started making hats that resembled hats OR if I perchance was in the common room when she was "S.P.E.W.ing" and I volunteered to make a few hats myself. Freedom and Rights to the House Elves!!

The hats are too precious.
