crochet and knit progress!

i have started the Animal Cracker Hat, making it out of Lopi and re-writing the pattern to make it an easier knit (i hope)

and here are the crocheted sleeves for Mrs. Weasley's sweater that she's wearing in the COS movie. i'm making it out of Paternayan and i'm loving it, except the way the pattern is written is kind of weird. i'm going to conact the designer when i'm done, as i've been making notes along the way. i'm at a standstill for a week or so, as i ran out of green. i'm going to make the body of the sweater out of Nature Wool, in a variagated pink. in the pictures i have, it's hard to tell what the body of the sweater looks like, since Mrs. Weasley is also wearing an apron. so, i'm improvising it but it should be wonderful!

here's a picture from the movie, in case it doesn't sound familiar.

i love the discussions about the books - i keep listening to them on cd while i work on these projects. it helps keep me motivated and makes me feel more involved. i feel like such a geek sometimes, but at least i am in good company!!!!

Who is the designer? Where and how did you find the pattern for the sleeves?

Is the pattern for sleeves only, or is the rest of the sweater in the pattern?

We wanna play, too!

sorry, i should have said ... i updated the post with links to the patterns. the sleeve pattern is just that - just for the sleeves. when i find a suitable sweater body pattern i'll post that, too. i don't recommend the sleeves for a beginning crocheter, unless you have a good coach. the way it's written, it's easy to do the wrong thing and not realize it till it's too late and you've had to rip it out. (i say this from experience!)

I love those sleeves! What a clever project. This is great, seeing all the different ways people are bringing the magical world to life!

Thanks for showing the photo of Molly's sweater. That's the clearest photo I've seen of it, and I wanted to make one ever since I first saw it.

It actually shows that it's a real sweater, too, and that the body is pink or rose.

Thanks!

I only have the fringe to do on the two scarves, so I started a new project.

It's a Weasley sweater. Oh, and I'm starting it on the 13th of March. I mention that because I am sure I'll forget when I started it.

The Weasley sweaters seem to be tweed, but I couldn't find any yarn anywhere in an appropriate weight.

In SS, the twins get "blue" sweaters with their initials in gold. It doesn't really say what shade of blue. Since light blue wouldn't show up the gold initials, and a medium wouldn't really, either, I'm guessing they might be a dark blue.

So, the pressures of finances finally won out. I bought two skeins of Caron's Simply Soft because there's no dye lot and I don't have to buy ALL of it right now. I can buy as I knit until next week when I have money.

I think the color is called dark country blue, but it looks like navy. I have about half a ball left over from the scarf, too.

Alison wrote the pattern to be knit in flat pieces except for the neckline. I know I'm not going to want to sew it up later, so I'll be knitting it in the round from the bottom up to the armholes, then the front and back back-and-forth. I'll graft the shoulders, do the collar in the round, then pick up the sleeves and work down. Since the edges are supposed to roll, it may not even need any blocking.

So I cast on, and I have about an inch of the bottom done so far.

It also has a more cottony feel, and I'd like to be able to wear it to the movie.

Alison has a photo of a sweater she made in a slightly lighter and brighter blue with a light grey H on the front, which looks good and I thought I'd do that.

But then I was looking at her blog, and she has a photo of a navy blue bag she made with an intarsia (or duplicate stitch) snitch on it, and it's BEAUTIFUL!

So, now I'm thinking about what I want on the front. I'll do it in duplicate stitch and keep my options open, but I'm leaning toward the snitch.

Opinions?

I love Mrs. Weasley's sleeves--what a great pattern. Too bad I stink at crochet :) Yours are looking great though!

Love those sleeves! I'd love to do those and I do crochet but not a lot, so I'm not sure I should tackle that pattern.

Jo, I always knit sweaters the way you do, in the round from the bottom up. The last time, when I got to the back and forth part after the armholes, I kept both front and back on the circular needles, attached a second ball, and knit front and back at the same time. A snitch would be a great thing to add to the front - love that idea.

I thought it looks like the sleeves are attached to a fabric dress.
