Joining In

Hi, everyone! I'm Laura, and I'm really excited to be joining this KAL. I own a yarn store in Minnesota called 3 Kittens Needle Arts. Tiffany (Gryffindor prefect) is one of our employees. I was lucky enough to see her Molly Weasley sleeves today at the store - they're stunning!

I started reading the 1st Harry Potter book to my son back before the books started gaining popularity here in the U.S., and I have been hooked ever since. I've read the 1st book 3 or 4 times and most of the other ones at least twice. I want to re-read the whole series before the next book comes out, but I'm not sure I have time. So I thought I'd listen to them on my iPod while I'm driving. I've listened to all of them off of CDs that I've borrowed from the library, but I thought since I have my iPod, I'd just download them onto there and listen that way. Unfortunately, the audio book service I use, Audible, doesn't have the books! WHY?? So now I'm going to have to figure out something else.

I'm not sure what I'm going to knit (or crochet) yet, although I'm leaning toward Hermione's cabled hat or the Weasley Cell Cozy. I also like the idea of a sorting hat. We'll see...

Thanks for letting me join. Check out my blog at www.k5tog.blogspot.com.

Hiya, so nice to meet you. Do you know which house you are going to be in? I have been with Harry since the beginning and it feels like ages since I read the first book. It's amazing that something can stay so interesting, compelling even after such a long time :)

Good luck with your projects!

Welcome. Another Gryffindor.... The sorting hat isn't being fair.

Good luck finding the books for download- my on-line library service doesn't have them either.

At first glance, I thought the crochet sleeves were attached to a cotton shirt, but the consensus I've heard (which makes sense to me) is that she's wearing an apron/smock/housedress affair over a sweater whose sleeves came from her stash.

The problem with this is that we can't see what the rest of the sweater looks like.

I'm also intrigued by the sweater she wears in Prisoner of Azkaban in the beginning. It's lavender and has a row or two of loops around the neck and sleeves. But this is mostly covered, too.

haha! i get to be my boss' prefect :)

i will post a picture of the molly weasley sleeves, as i'm hopeful to finish by the weekend (if my yarn comes in!) i'm planning to make a simple pink knit vest cardigan and attach the sleeves. the best picture i found clearly shows a knit sweater with the crocheted sleeves attached, and there is definitely a button. she never takes off the apron, though, so i'm winging it beyond that.

then, on to the animal cracker hat!

Thanks for the nice welcome everyone. Tiff - I'm glad you're my prefect! At least, I know where to find you if I run into any problems in Gryffindor!
